Seagate Barracuda

I recommend Seagate Barracuda Serial ATA hard drives for internal drive replacement or upgrades. I have been putting 500GB Seagate 2.5 inch 7200 rpm drives in MacBook Pro upgrades for some time. This model is a better performer than the slightly cheaper 5400 rpm version of this notebook drive. I have found Seagate to be a reliable drive that holds up well over time. For even higher levels of performance, there are other options like the Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Drive, and Solid State Drives from various manufacturers.

For Production Studios and Video Editors: Put two of these drives in your Mac Pro, and use Disk Utility to format the two drives to create a RAID partition (Disk Utility will stripe two drives together for higher performance and capacity – it will look like a 4 TB drive mounted on the desktop).

There are external drive cases available that will support up to four internal SATA hard drives. These drives can be RAIDed together for higher performance and capacity, or each drive can be used for a separate project or client.
